041: Quarantine Edition: Own Your Communication

Word of the Week: Balance! Topic of the Week: Quarantine Edition Inner Self Series: Self Awareness - Own Your Communication Video of the Week: Own Your Behaviours, Master Your Communication, Determine Your Success | Louise Evans | TEDxGenova https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BZuWrdC-9Q Louise Evans work is about researching the questions, What behaviors and attitudes do we bring into the world? On the stage with Louise are 5 chairs. Each a different color and each chair represents a reaction the people have to situations and the idea is to help us slow down how we are behaving and to analyze our behaviors. 1) On the red chair is a picture of a jackal which represents attack 2) The yellow chair is the hedgehog chair. We curl up and protect ourselves from the big bad world by harshly judging ourselves and play the victim. 3) The green chair is the meer cat chair. This is when we are mindful, thoughtful, curious, we take a breath before making a decision. 4) The blue chair, the dolphin chair represents Detect. We become detective of ourselves. 5) The purple chair, the giraffe chair which represents connect. This is where we put our egos on the back-burner and we show empathy, compassion, understanding, we listen to people. The next time you're presented with a challenge, you are about to snap at your partner, or kids, which chair will you sit in? And if you find yourself in the red chair can you at least acknowledge it, be aware that it wasn't the right choice and say "i'm sorry". Because then you can free yourself of that and recognize there's a better way. Topic of the week: Living It Under Quarantine: Getting Stronger Video of the week: Tom Bilyeu on Keys to Enjoying Quarantine - by Lisa and Tom Bilyeu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZw5oipg2U8 Mindset - be excited, find the opportunity. Silver Lining! Figure out why this is an amazing opportunity David have you gotten to this point and if so what's your silver lining Fun stuff - take time to really do fun stuff. Don't forget the importance of selfish time - schedule time to do things for yourself. To improve yourself, relax yourself, something that's fulfilling to your soul. Especially for those sharing a space, this is especially important. And it needs to be uninterrupted time. Plan that time with your spouse or roommate that you don't want to be interrupted. And no judgement of what they want selfish time to be. Please share any tips or suggestions you have that may help us get through this crisis and let us know what you thought of this episode. Word of the Week: CONNECT! Now that we've all gone through the stages of grief (to a greater or lesser degree), because that is what we are feeling is grief, we can talk about our expectations. We have lost our way of life. It hasn't just been turned upside down, it's changed for good. It wont stay this way, but even when the quarantine is lifted we won't be going back to the way things we did a few weeks ago. So we are dealing with the fact that our old way of living is over. It's dead. And we must grieve whether we want to or not. These are the stages to grieving: SHOCK & DENIAL PAIN & GUILT ANGER & BARGAINING "DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS THE UPWARD TURN RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH ACCEPTANCE & HOPE If you look back at how you've reacted to this over that past few weeks you'll see that you've had some if not all the negative emotions. We doubt anyone is at the point where we feel optimistic and hopeful and ready to start accepting and adapting. But of course that's where we want to be because until then we can't move forward and get back to living it. And it's ok. That's what this show is about this week. Our expectations at this point. Please share any tips or suggestions you have that may help us get through this crisis and let us know what you thought of this episode.
